The poll results are in …

As I write this, we are down to the finals in the Men’s NCAA Basketball Championships. Florida and Ohio State will square off tonight for the basketball crown.
But you already knew that. Florida and Ohio State were the teams to receive the highest votes in our online poll of number one seeds. Florida was chosen by 46 percent of you while Ohio State was next with 27 percent. Kansas faded fast and only got 5 percent of the vote. North Carolina was third with 22 percent of the vote.
I won’t change this portion of the column. Let’s see if your predictions will proclaim the champion. If so, Florida will win tonight.
As an aside, this is an astounding final when you consider that the exact two teams also squared off for the football championship back in January. That time Florida beat an impressive Ohio State team. We’ll see if fate is in the same corner or if turnabout is fair play. As an alumnus of Tennessee, I find it hard to cheer for Florida under any circumstance. I have to remind myself I’m cheering for the SEC and not just Florida to win the game.
Back to the polls.
The other question we’ve had running for the past two weeks relates to the future of Memorial Hospital at Easton. The question is, should it remain at Easton or move to the county or consider some other site on the Mid-Shore?
The majority of you feel that it should move to the site offered by the county near the Hog Neck Area just off Route 50. That question received 58 percent of the votes. The next highest vote-getter was to stay in Easton with 25 percent. The notion that the hospital should look at other sites on the Mid-Shore received only 17 percent.
This story has a long way to go. We’ll have to see if agency and government officials agree with our readers.
A few notes from Apple:
The iTV is now available. It allows you to download videos, television shows and movies from the iTunes store and play them on your television set. It isn’t high definition and it only has a 40 Gg hard drive, but it is getting positive reviews for ease of use. It has also already been hacked by techies who have given it larger hard drives.
We’re sure that later versions of the box will include larger drives and provisions for high definition TV. Apple has a history of building features into its products with succeeding generations.
A date has been announced for the release of another piece of Apple hardware. The iPhone is scheduled to be available on Monday, June 11. This innovative phone/music player/camera has been much heralded in recent months.
There are some questions about its utility. Rumors are that pre-production models suffer from short battery life and do not incorporate a replaceable battery.
We’ll have to watch closely when the public first gets its hands on them. Hopefully they will have some of these issues addressed by June 11.
This device has taken the public’s interest like no other new cell phone release. There are literally millions of people who have signed up for notification when the phone becomes available. It could either be a tremendous boon to Apple or a horrible bust if it doesn’t live up to its billing.
Note: The men’s national championship game is over. Our poll participants are psychic. You not only picked the two teams that would be in the finals, you also chose the winning team. Great work.
Keep a watch out for our poll questions. We will have a new one up soon.
